What it is

The Triangle Potters Guild (TPG) is a not-for-profit membership guild for potters and ceramic artists in the Triangle Area of North Carolina (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill region). The About page says TPG was founded in 1982 “to promote the art and craft of ceramics in the community and to provide a forum for local potters and ceramic artists to share their experiences and knowledge of clay.” That knowledge is shared through guest speakers, member show-and-tell, newsletters, workshops, shows, sales, and a library of books and videos.

Who it’s for

The About page says the guild is “open to clay-workers at all levels of experience, and to those who don’t make pottery but are interested in it.” Members include production and studio potters, serious amateurs, hobbyists, beginners, ceramics educators, sculptors, and collectors. Schools and groups can also book a member demo.

Why it’s listed

This is the guild’s own first-party WordPress site (trianglepotters.org). It prints bylaws, published dues, a named board of officers, a newsletter archive running through October 2026, and a dated event list. It is not a scraped directory card.

  • Dues and benefits (About and Become a Member pages, checked 2026-10-12): $40/year individual, $60 family, $25 full-time student (paying online through PayPal adds a fee: $41.29 / $61.72 / $26.01). Members get a monthly newsletter “published 9 times a year,” can attend the monthly meetings, can use the guild library, get discounts on sponsored workshops, and can take part in guild shows and sales.
  • Meetings (homepage and Events page, checked today): guild meetings are held the first Tuesday of every month at 7:00pm at Pullen Park Arts Center in Raleigh. Past 2026 meeting demos on the Events page include Richard Heiser (03/03/2026), Sam Oliver (04/07/2026), Charlie Tefft (09/01/2026), and Susan Moser (10/06/2026, Pullen Arts Center, 7:00). The Events page showed “No upcoming events” on the check date.
  • Newsletter (Newsletter page, checked today): an archive from 2017 through February, March, April, May, September, and October 2026.
  • Demos (Request a Demo page, checked today): 1-hour hand-building or wheel demos by a TPG member. The educational fee is $50 per TPG instructor, paid on the day, plus $2 per pound of clay for audience-participation demos. The host supplies the wheel and water for wheel demos.
  • Officers (Become a Member and Contact pages, checked today): President Menan Al Ramah, Vice President Sarah Coppola, Corresponding Secretary Laura Casas, Recording Secretary Jay Levine, Librarian Leslie Shastry, Treasurer Jet Schmidt, Webmaster Theresa Glisson.

Dues, meeting details, and fees above are what the official pages showed on the check date. Confirm on the live site before treating any figure as fixed.

Notes

  • Category is Guild: dues, bylaws, elected officers, monthly member meetings, and a newsletter. TPG does not run classes or sell supplies. Its Resources page points members to outside classes (e.g. Pullen Arts Center, Claymakers, Sertoma Arts Center) and suppliers.
  • North Carolina already has two Clay Plaza listings (Carolina Clay Matters, a Charlotte guild, and STARworks Ceramics, a Star supplier). This is the first Triangle / Raleigh listing and a separate organization. Not the rejected Carolina Clay Connection (Pineville NC supplier). Away from Friday’s ID / AK / OH geos.
  • Stale homepage text: the homepage says open registration “will began on September 1st” and mentions a meeting on “Noember 2nd.” Nov 2 is not a Tuesday in 2026 (calculated: Nov 3, 2026 is the first Tuesday), so that sentence appears to be left over from an earlier year. The Events page and the October 2026 newsletter are current.
  • No street address, phone, or 501(c)(3) status is printed (the guild calls itself “not-for-profit”). Contact is by web form only.
  • Prices were transcribed from official pages checked on 2026-10-12 and may change.
  • Not affiliated with Clay Plaza.
  • No Clay Plaza contact, purchase, membership, demo request, form submission, or publication action was taken.
  • First-party logo saved beside this listing as triangle-potters-guild.png (flaming-pot “TRIANGLE POTTERS GUILD” site-header logo, theme file logo-v1.png, PNG 900 × 364).
