What it is
The New Hampshire Potters Guild is a member ceramics organization for potters and clay artists in New Hampshire and the surrounding region. About page: founded in 1995. Mission language on the homepage and About page is fellowship, collaboration, and encouragement — exchanging ideas, methods, and techniques, and collaborating on work and exhibitions — for novices and experienced makers. It is not a single community teaching campus and not a clay or glaze manufacturer. The guild’s own major facility is the Nakamagama community wood kiln in Deerfield, New Hampshire.
Who it’s for
Potters and clay artists who want a statewide member group: meetings, workshops, a website profile, the biennial exhibition, and wood-kiln participation. Students have a lower dues tier. Some education programs are described as open to the public as well as members. It is not a drop-in hourly studio you join in order to throw every week at one address.
Why it’s listed
This is a first-party guild site with printed dues, a 2026 meeting schedule with street addresses, officer emails, and a documented community kiln — not a scraped directory card.
- Dues (Membership page — checked 2026-09-22): membership is January 1–December 31 and not prorated. Join anytime; the page encourages renewal by March 1 so names stay in guild communication. Individual $50.00 per year. Family $75.00 per year (covers up to 2 adults). Student $25.00 per year. Online and mail-in membership forms are linked from the site. The mail-in page, on this check, only printed “Click Here for NHPG Membership Form 2025.”
- Benefits (Member Benefits — checked today): fellowship; wood firings at the community kiln; biennial exhibition; a professional profile page (bio, images, website and social links); potluck meetings; demonstrations, guest speakers, and events such as raku firings; mentorship and education; newsletter; Rudy Houk Scholarship; networking.
- 2026 meeting schedule (
/meetingschedulefor2026— checked today), all potlucks: February 8, 2026, League of New Hampshire Headquarters, 49 South Main Street, Suite 100, Concord, NH, 2:00–4:00, general meeting. March 15, 2026, Kimball Jenkins School of Art, 266 N. Main St., Concord NH, 2:00–4:00, public meeting. August 6, 2026, Sunapee Lake State Park, 1398 Rte. 103, Newbury, NH, 5:30 pm, picnic. November 15, Black Olive Pottery, Loudon Road, Concord NH, 2:00–4:00 pm, business meeting (board voting). The November line does not repeat the year; the page title is the 2026 schedule, and the homepage (same check) says the next meeting is Sunday November 15 at Black Olive Pottery in Concord, NH. - Workshop (homepage and Education page — checked today): Throwing Large Forms with Tori Motyl, 9:00 am–3:00 pm, November 7 and 8, 2026, Dover Pottery Studio. Students bring their own tools, clay, and lunch. The Education page adds that students bring 100 pounds of clay. No workshop dollar fee was printed on those pages.
- Education (Education page — checked today): workshops, demonstrations, artist talks, collaborative kiln firings, mentorship, Clay Tent at the League Fair in Sunapee (ten days), and wood firing. Education committee contact: Vice Chair Linda Fletcher, vicechair@nhpottersguild.org.
- Officers (Contact and member pages — checked today): Chair Wren Morrocco, chair@nhpottersguild.org. Correspondence Secretary Hannah Bunnell, Corsecretary@nhpottersguild.org. Website messages go to the correspondence secretary. Also printed: Recording Secretary Claire Provencher (Recsecretary@nhpottersguild.org), Treasurer Frank McGinn (treasurer@nhpottersguild.org), Wood Kiln Committee Chair Lydia Grey (woodkilnchair@nhpottersguild.org).
- Wood kiln (
/kiln— checked today): Nakamagama, “community kiln,” in Deerfield, New Hampshire, about 26 miles inland from the seacoast near Portsmouth, on a 171-acre tree farm stewarded under Bear-Paw Regional Greenways, with guild access for the kiln, wood prep, storage, and parking. In 2011 the guild built a 16’×32’ post-and-beam shed for Gerry Williams’s small historic wood kiln and a larger wood kiln. By 2020 that kiln was deteriorating. Eric Maglio and Belinda Bodnar designed a large anagama and a smaller catenary arch that can fire together or separately. Summer 2023 the shed was doubled to 16’×64’. The old kiln was dismantled in May 2024. Finished kiln: 27 feet long, 9-foot rise from the lowest fire ports to the chimney base. First firing early September 2024, 28 potters, four days, four to five cords of pine and oak, then 876 pieces unloaded. The kiln page does not print a street address for the kiln itself. Do not treat the June 7 meeting address (20 Perry Road) as the kiln’s published street address unless a live page says they are the same place.
Dues, the 2026 meeting list, and the kiln history above are what the official pages showed on the check date. Meeting places and the workshop signup can change. Use the live membership, meeting-schedule, education, and kiln pages before treating any figure as fixed.
