What it is

ClayHouston is Houston’s volunteer-run nonprofit ceramics association. The homepage and About page state that it exists to cultivate, promote, and advance the ceramic arts in the Houston Metropolitan area and beyond, providing members with education, professional development, exhibitions, workshops, and programs while partnering with local arts organizations. It also creates recreational programs so members can socialize, build community, and learn from one another. ClayHouston was founded in 2004 and is a volunteer-run 501(c)3. It is not a commercial clay supplier and it is not a drop-in teaching studio with its own permanent public class program as its primary identity.

Who it’s for

Ceramic makers in the Houston area — beginners through established ceramicists — who want guild fellowship, member pricing on symposiums and workshops, free programs such as guided tours and Clay Creatives, sale opportunities (Members Pop Up; Bayou City Clay Crawl), a membership directory / Members Spotlight, newsletter access, and Reuse Warehouse access as printed. Join page: all memberships are annual and renew on the sign-up anniversary. If you are not ready to join, the same page points to info@clayhouston.org or the newsletter.

Why it’s listed

This is a first-party Houston pottery-association site with printed annual dues tiers, a dated 2026 members’ show (Bayou Mud) with dollar application fee and awards, and a tenth-annual 2026 Bayou City Clay Crawl with printed studio addresses — not a scraped directory card.

Sustaining $100 / year — Basic benefits plus visiting-artist dinners, additional paid-event discounts, priority Pop-Up Market table selection, and waived Members Only Show application fees. Patron $250 / year — Sustaining benefits plus one guest pass to programming events, one free ticket to one paid event (Symposium excluded), waived Members Only Show commission, waived Pop-Up Market registration, and first-choice table selection.

Location

Regional member ceramics association serving the Houston metropolitan area. Contact page mailing address: PO Box 667401, Houston, TX 77266. Email info@clayhouston.org. Meetings, shows, and studio visits are held at announced partner venues (2026 Members’ Show at Silos Bay 100, The Silos at Sawyer Yards; Clay Crawl at the eight member studios listed above) rather than a single permanent public member-studio street address as the association’s primary public identity.

Do not treat ClayHouston as a walk-in classroom enrollment desk or a clay supply warehouse. The site’s Local Classes & Services / calendar notes point to third-party Houston-area facilities, not ClayHouston’s own class studio brand.

A: Join page: open to beginner, intermediate, and established ceramicists. Printed annual dues checked 2026-09-15: Basic $35; Sustaining $100; Patron $250. Memberships renew on the anniversary of sign-up. Confirm live amounts at https://www.clayhouston.org/join

Q: What 2026 programs are documented on first-party pages?
A: Members’ Show / Bayou Mud: opening September 26, 2026, 6–8 p.m., Silos Bay 100; on view through October 31. Bayou City Clay Crawl: Sunday December 6, 2026, 11:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., eight printed Houston studios, free to the public. Confirm live Members Show and Clay Crawl pages before relying on any date.

Q: Does ClayHouston run a public drop-in pottery studio?
A: No permanent public open-studio classroom brand is the association’s primary identity on About or Join. ClayHouston is a member association that holds exhibitions, Clay Crawl studio tours, workshops, and recreational programs at partner and member venues. For weekly class-studio practice, use a local teaching studio or your own workspace; join ClayHouston for association benefits and program eligibility, not as a substitute for a class-studio membership.
