Who it’s for

Adults in the Salt Lake City and Utah County area, from first-time beginners to production potters, who want to make pottery every week. The minimum age is 18, or 14 with a parent or guardian who is also a member.

Why it’s listed

It is a working community studio with its own website, a published street address, a weekly schedule and published membership prices. It is not a directory card.

  • About (FAQ page, checked 2026-10-20): “A community pottery and art studio in Draper, Utah, and nearly 10,000 square feet of it. Pottery is the main event, with workshops in other art forms running alongside it.” The studio has couches, game tables and lounge areas, and is built around community.
  • Membership (home and membership pages): month to month, no contract, four Levels. Green $145/month (4 classes), Yellow $170 (5), Purple $200 (6) and Black $275 (8, capped at 20 members), about $33–$36 a class. Higher Levels add more tools, more glazes, a bigger shelf and $2–$6 off every bag of clay. New members pay $50 for the first month, and classes never expire while you remain a member.
  • Add-ons (home page): the Unlimited Class Pass adds every class and open studio session from $60 a month (Green) to $140 (Black). A Shared Membership for couples starts at $145, a Shared Shelf Pass saves 20% on two memberships, and a Bring a Friend Pass is $35 for a first visit.
  • Schedule (membership page): open studio classes with four instructors on Monday 10:30 am–2 pm and Monday–Thursday 6:30–10 pm; open studio without instructors (still counts as a class) Friday 6:30–10 pm and Saturday–Sunday 10 am–1:30 pm. Open seven days a week, holidays excluded. A new member’s first visit must be a regular class.
  • Studio (home page): 29 pottery wheels, 650+ glazes, 248 slab molds and 217 free online lessons.
  • Billing (FAQ): memberships renew on the 25th; you cancel yourself in the member portal by 11:59 pm on the 24th (a text or email does not cancel), and pausing must be done by 4 pm on the 24th.
  • Owner (Dan Pearce page): founded by Dan Pearce, a potter, author and former Single Dad Laughing blogger, who says more than $1 million went into building the studio.

Notes

  • Category is Studio: membership-based community studio with instructor-led classes and open studio.
  • It sells clay to members at the studio (member discounts on every bag), but it is not a public supply store.
  • Visitors cannot drop by to look around (FAQ: the social-media following made visits unmanageable).
  • The site has a large social-media following behind it (the FAQ cites more than 3.1 million followers as @theclayhole), and its pages include sales copy such as a live count of “discounted spots left this month.”
  • Utah already has Clay Arts Utah (guild); this is the first Utah studio (checked local files, GitHub main and live clayplaza.com on 2026-10-20; not listed). Sunstone Pottery & Supply (UT) remains a standing skip as a studio/supply blur.
  • Not affiliated with Clay Plaza.
  • No Clay Plaza contact, text, membership, purchase, form, account or publication action was taken.
