What it is
Pewabic (Pewabic Pottery) is a Detroit ceramic-arts center founded in 1903 by Mary Chase Perry (Stratton) and Horace J. Caulkins. Official About copy: one of the oldest continually operating potteries in the country; a National Historic Landmark studio on Detroit’s east side; an active working pottery, architectural tile studio, ceramic arts education center, and cultural destination. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (The Pewabic Society), mission: “to enrich the human spirit through clay.” Education Studio programming includes multi-week classes, intensives, and labs plus onsite/offsite tours and outreach. It is not a membership guild association and not a commercial clay manufacturer warehouse.
Who it’s for

Not a drop-in open-studio desk without enrollment — Fall calendars show OPEN STUDIO slots tied to the education schedule for enrolled students. Intermediate/advanced registration may require application or waitlist approval (Education Studio page).
