What it is

Pottery Northwest is a nonprofit community ceramics school and teaching studio in Seattle. Its official Mission page describes an organization founded in 1966 that promotes innovation, arts excellence, and education with a mission of fostering an inclusive community around clay. Programming includes multi-week adult classes and shorter “Shortstack” courses in wheel throwing, handbuilding, surface design, and glaze chemistry; workshops and Clay Nights; quarterly Studio Access for experienced independent makers; private group events; visiting artists; exhibitions; tuition assistance; and a studio apprenticeship. It is not a guild and not a commercial clay manufacturer.

Who it’s for

Adults 18+ (Registration Info & Policies: Adult Classes section is for adults 18 and older only) seeking quarter or Shortstack ceramics classes; experienced makers using quarterly Studio Access without instruction; groups booking private 3-hour clay events; and visitors scheduling a tour by appointment. Our Studio / Plan Your Visit: the facility is open to currently enrolled students and Studio Access members — it is not a public drop-in studio. Public tours or meetings are by appointment only (Plan Your Visit: typically 11:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.). Need-based and BIPOC Community Fund scholarships are offered each quarter.
